MyLocalElectrician.co.uk is an online directory of electricians in the UK. Sailfin were asked to take on the existing concept site and develop a new site for them with the functionality of the original site, but with a scalable architecture and an easier back-end administration system.

sailfin|development team took the original site, broke down the sitemap and the business model and re-designed the concept using their experience and creativity to produce a plan for a content-managed system with the original model built in, but with additional options to generate revenue from other paths.

The Sailfin team spoke with the client about why they were moving away from the previous site and the problems arising from using a proprietary system as they had before. Because of this, Sailfin chose to use the open-source content-management-system (CMS) Drupal. Using an open-source CMS gives MyLocalElectrician.co.uk the ability to take ownership of the site and to protect their longterm business by not relying on a single proprietary system as before.

sailfin|development team then developed the www.mylocalelectrician.co.uk site based around a directory with geo-located entries (basic and enhanced listings) along with a blog, FAQs, and eCommerce plugin to handle the enhanced listing payments. The site was populated with bulk-imported data to kick things off and a proximity search function added along with the facility to serve advertising around the site from mylocalelectrician.co.uk's own sales team, or from Google AdSense.

www.MyLocalElectrician.co.uk went live at the end of March 2009 and is now operating a free and premium listing service along with advertising as a revenue source.
